School Log Book January 1963

Jan 28th 1963

Parents of three children called to say that in view of a further gas explosion on Friday last (25th Jan) they were considering keeping their children away from school. I informed them of the Attendance Regulations and stated that these would be enforced, but agreed to discuss the matter with the Gas Board. The Eastern Gas Board's Distribution Inspector at Harlow informed me by telephone that on the previous occasion the gas main pipes had been repaired and were in good condition. Frequent tests for gas had been and are being carried out but [there is] the danger of a fracture due to subsidence in pressure in periods of prolonged heavy frost.
