In 1898 a gang of horse thieves from London rented the house and fields at Teagles as a place from which to carry out their criminal activities.
In the winter of 1933-34 a large quantity of stolen goods was found in the roof space of Waltham Hall which turned out to be the proceeds of many burglaries in the area.
In this short booklet from Pat Salmon these two crimes, which both occurred at Mill End Takeley, are told in the newspaper reports of the day.
